Gold at the National Sign Awards: How We Helped Turn Skipping Girl Into Scrolling Girl

The Brief

Light up a brand new neon sign on a balcony below one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks, install it overnight, then come back a week later and take it down again. That was Peak Install's brief on the Scrolling Girl campaign, and it's why we just won Gold in the Illumination, Neon category at the 2026 Easy Signs National Sign & Graphics Awards.

The landmark above it is Skipping Girl, the neon sign that's watched over Victoria Street in Richmond since 1936, Victorian Heritage Register listed and National Trust recognised. In April 2026 she went dark for a week while Scrolling Girl took the spotlight on the balcony below, part of a Dairy Farmers campaign about kids spending more time on screens than skipping ropes, created by agency The Royals. Our job was Scrolling Girl: install her safely, and a week later, take her down again.

Two Overnight Shifts, and One Long Drive

Good Sign Co, built the Scrolling Girl sign and brought Peak Install on as the installation team, while Jack Flash Neon bent and assembled the neon itself. Our job was everything around getting it there safely: installation planning, VicRoads and council permits, labour and EWP access, for both the install and the removal.

The install itself wasn't the scariest part. The sign was built by Good Sign Co in Airport West, on the other side of Melbourne from Richmond, and it's glass neon, not something that forgives a rough ride. Getting it across the city in one piece, on the back of our own crane truck, in time for an overnight window, was more nerve-wracking than actually putting it up. Once it arrived, the work ran to a strict overnight shift, around 8 hours with roughly 10 people across the full team on site. A week later we came back and did it in reverse, taking Scrolling Girl down again. Nobody driving past on Victoria Street was any the wiser.

That job just took out Gold in the Illumination, Neon category at the 2026 Easy Signs National Sign & Graphics Awards, run by the Australian Sign and Graphics Association. It's national recognition for exactly the kind of job that's easy to get wrong and hard to notice when it's done right: a temporary sign installed and removed without a mark left behind, on a deadline with zero room for a second attempt.
